Shusha Victory

Project

The project is implemented by the initiative of the world renown kamancha master Imamyar Hasanov living in the USA, jointly organized and sponsored by the Fund for Support to Azerbaijan Diaspora and Shusha City State Reserve Department.

This idea arose during the meeting of Kamancha master Imamyar Hasanov with representatives of the Azerbaijan Diaspora Support Fund and Shusha City State Reserve Department within the framework of the 5th Congress of World Azerbaijanis held in Shusha. The goal is to convey the acts of vandalism committed against historical and cultural heritage in the ancient city of Shusha by the Armenian invaders to the world community in video clip format.

Imamyar Hasanov performed five national musical compositions during the filming of the video clip, which was also attended by musicians and a dance group. Among them are works such as "Azerbaijani Suite", “Sevgili Canan”, “Dilbarim”.

The video clip was filmed by Elkhan Jafarov. Filming was done in the Jidir Plain, Ganja Gate of the Shusha Fortress, the restored mausoleum of poet Molla Panah Vagif, the house of Khan's Daughter poet Khurshidbanu Nathavan, the house of composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov, and the house of the vocalist Bulbul, and other historical places of Shusha.

"Shusha, the cultural capital of Azerbaijan, is a very important city for all Azerbaijanis. In 1992, when I was 17 years old, Shusha was occupied by the Armenian army in the First Kharabakh War. The world-renowned and unforgettable artists of Azerbaijan opened their eyes to the world and created profound work within this city. I've always wanted to be creative with my art in Shusha. After 30 years, on November 8, 2020, Azerbaijan regained Shusha in the Second Kharabakh War.

“I was invited to the 5th Congress of World Azerbaijanis in 2022 which was held at Shusha. And on the occasion of Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, I was awarded the “Progress” medal. This award was given for my work and how it has been representing Azerbaijani music and culture. I've been living in the United States for 22 years and have been consistently working on these kinds of projects. I'm looking forward to showing the world much more about my native country.

When I got the chance to walk around Shusha, I noticed the vandalism of our historical monuments that had consistently occurred within a span of 30 years. This deeply saddened me as an artist which is why I decided to convey my thoughts and feelings to the world audience with my project called "Shusha Victory Project”.
